MISSISSIPPI COACHING STAFF NAMED FOR ALL-STAR CLASSIC
Lafayette County's Anthony Hart will serve as head coach for the Mississippi All-Star team in December 12 talent showcase in Mobile.
MOBILE, Ala. (Aug. 5) – Lafayette County head coach Anthony Hart will serve as head coach of the team of Mississippi high school football stars and top collegiate prospects who will face off against Alabama in the 23rd annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic, set for Saturday, December 12 in Mobile, Ala.
Hart, who previously served as an assistant coach in both the 2007 and 2008 All-Star Classics, is entering his fifth season at Lafayette County and has been a head coach at the high school level in Mississippi for the past 11 years.
"It is a great honor to represent Mississippi in this prestigious event," said Coach Hart. "I've thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent as an assistant in the game the last two years, particularly the opportunity to make new friends with the other coaches and getting to know the players from both states." Hart will be joined on the Mississippi team coaching staff by seven assistants – Al Jones of George County, Mike Davis of Lawrence County, Malcolm Jones of McComb, Stan McCain of Kosciusko, Shannon White of North Forrest, Kenny Burton of Ridgeland and M.C. Miller of Noxubee County.
"We feel that Coach Hart and his staff will do an outstanding job in preparing our team of outstanding student-athletes who will represent the best in high school football in Mississippi in 2009," said Johnny Mims, executive director of the Mississippi Association of Coaches, which selects the Mississippi coaching staff for the Classic each year.
Earlier this year, Hoover High School head coach Josh Niblett was named head coach of the Alabama team by the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA) in conjunction with the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA). The rest of the Alabama team coaching staff will be announced at a later date.
Annually featuring 74 of the best high school players and top collegiate prospects from two states rich in football tradition, the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic is the South's premier interstate high school football event. Seventeen former All-Star Classic players have been selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, and over 80 All-Star Classic alums are currently listed on Southeastern Conference team rosters.
Now under new management by The Mishkin Group, a Mobile-based sports marketing firm, the All-Star Classic will also seek to raise awareness for high school athletic and academic excellence and various charitable programs in both states.
